The Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to President Bola Tinubu, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, recently provided an update on the operations at the Port Harcourt Refining Company in Rivers State. He mentioned that work is in progress at the 150,000 barrels per day plant of the PHRC, which consists of two plants – the 60,000bpd facility and the 150,000bpd plant.
According to Onanuga, the 60,000bpd refinery is currently running at 70% of its installed capacity and is planning to increase production soon. He also clarified that the refinery is receiving regular crude oil supply, contrary to some claims.
During a fact-finding visit to the 60,000 barrels per day refinery, Onanuga expressed satisfaction with the state of the facility. He emphasized that despite not operating at full capacity, the refinery is functioning well and has plans for production expansion.
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited recently announced the commencement of operations at the Port Harcourt refinery, with a current capacity of 60,000 barrels per day and plans to increase production. The refinery processes various petroleum products, including kerosene, fuel oil, liquefied petroleum gas, diesel, and petrol.
Onanuga praised the efforts of NNPC Limited in reviving the refinery and highlighted the modernization of the facility with upgraded parts and new pipelines. The spokesperson also mentioned ongoing work at the second Port Harcourt refinery, indicating progress towards its operational readiness.
Overall, the fact-finding mission led by Onanuga dispelled doubts and misinformation about the Port Harcourt Refinery Complex, commending the efforts to revitalize the refinery and bring it up to modern standards.
