Workers celebrate as Ekiti begins payment of N70,000 minimum wage

In Ekiti State, there was a notable sense of joy among workers when they began receiving their December salaries, which now include the increased N70,000 minimum wage. Many workers, including top officials, gathered at the Governor’s Office in Ado Ekiti to celebrate and express their appreciation for the salary adjustment.

Governor Biodun Oyebanji, accompanied by other state officials, greeted the elated workers and acknowledged their hard work, attributing the successful payment of the new minimum wage to President Bola Tinubu’s financial reforms that provided more funds to states. The Governor emphasized the importance of recognizing Tinubu’s contributions in enabling states to meet their salary obligations.

Oyebanji encouraged workers to support Tinubu and assured them that as the state’s financial situation improves, there could be further salary increments beyond the minimum wage. He highlighted the need for workers to remain patient, cooperate with the government, and educate others about the significance of these reforms for the country’s progress.

The Governor had previously announced the implementation of the new minimum wage in the state, which came into effect on December 1, leading to the prompt disbursement of increased salaries to the state workers.
