The Zamfara State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress has issued a statement criticizing Governor Dauda Lawal for shifting blame to his predecessor, Bello Mattawalle, and the APC for the ongoing banditry issues in the state. The party spokesperson expressed disappointment in Lawal’s failure to effectively address the security challenges in Zamfara since taking office. The APC refuted accusations made by the PDP-led government, highlighting the alleged mismanagement of funds and lack of progress in combating banditry.
The party urged Governor Lawal to focus on concrete actions rather than engaging in blame games. They also called for transparency regarding the resignation of the state chairman of the Security Trust Fund and the handling of internally displaced persons. The APC emphasized the need for the state government to prioritize security and fulfill its promises to the people.
In response, the Zamfara State Government dismissed allegations of funding bandits for dialogue and emphasized its commitment to not negotiate with terrorists. The Secretary to the State Government clarified that documents circulating online were fake and aimed at undermining the government’s efforts to restore peace in the state. The government reiterated its dedication to combating banditry through strategic measures while upholding integrity and accountability.
Additionally, a Special Assistant to Governor Lawal defended the administration’s actions against banditry and criticized the APC for failing to address security challenges during its tenure. The assistant highlighted the efforts made by Governor Lawal in comparison to the previous administration led by Bello Mattawalle, who is now the Defense Minister. The assistant challenged the APC to hold their leader accountable for the state of security in Zamfara.
