30,350 receiving HIV/AIDS treatment in Ogun — Commissioner

The Health Commissioner of Ogun State revealed that approximately 30,350 individuals are currently undergoing HIV/AIDS treatment in the state, with children constituting a small percentage of this group. The focus is on preventing mother-to-child transmission and ensuring children with HIV receive necessary care. To reach the goal of zero HIV/AIDS cases by 2030, increased funding for HIV programs is crucial.

The state is dedicated to eradicating HIV/AIDS by 2030 and urges responsible sexual behavior, condom usage, and regular testing. HIV testing and treatment are provided free of charge in Ogun State. These statements were made during a press briefing for World AIDS Day, themed “Take The Right Path: Sustain HIV Response, Stop HIV Among Children.”

Efforts to combat HIV/AIDS include prevention, testing, treatment, and support services. The state is progressing towards achieving the UNAIDS 95-95-95 targets. Initiatives like expanding treatment sites, providing diagnostic tools, and training mentor mothers and traditional birth attendants are in place. However, sustaining progress requires increased funding for HIV programs and addressing social determinants like poverty and stigma.

Community engagement is vital to empower individuals in making informed health decisions to prevent HIV transmission. The media is encouraged to disseminate accurate information to educate the public about HIV/AIDS and promote proactive measures.
