CFR honours not to undermine Reps — Tinubu’s aide

The Special Adviser to President on Senate Matters, Senator Basheer Lado, has offered additional details on the National Honours granted to the presiding officers of both the Senate and the House of Representatives by the President.

During Nigeria’s 64th Independence anniversary broadcast, President conferred prestigious honors on the President of the Senate, the Deputy President of the Senate, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives. The Deputy Speaker also received a notable title.

Following this, a motion was raised in the House of Representatives regarding the appropriateness of the honor bestowed upon the Speaker, which was later clarified by the House spokesperson, Akin Rotimi. Senator Lado clarified that the honors were in line with established procedures and not arbitrary.

He emphasized the President’s authority under the National Honours Act and commended the House for seeking clarification, reaffirming the commitment to a harmonious relationship with the National Assembly for the nation’s progress. The House’s clarification was appreciated, and concerns raised will be communicated to the President accordingly.
