Orji Kalu, a former Governor of Abia State and current Senator representing Abia North, disclosed that he receives a monthly salary of N14 million as a member of the National Assembly. He shared this information during an interview on a television program called Politics Today. Kalu explained that the N14 million covers various expenses such as travel costs to his constituency, office maintenance, and staff salaries. He emphasized that this amount is insufficient for all his responsibilities.
Kalu also addressed the misconception that National Assembly members lead lavish lifestyles while the general populace struggles with poverty. He clarified that lawmakers do not receive personal official vehicles, and only committee members are provided with vehicles. Kalu expressed disappointment with false claims made about Senators and emphasized the need for accurate information about their roles and benefits.
