Shaibu offers N1m reward for information on looting in Obaseki administration

In a recent press briefing in Benin City, the reinstated deputy governor of Edo State, Philip Shaibu, announced a reward of N1 million for anyone with information regarding the alleged looting of government property as the administration nears its end. Shaibu expressed concerns about reported misappropriation of funds meant for various projects and last-minute activities by the outgoing administration.

He specifically highlighted issues such as last-minute loans being granted to the governor, questionable appointments, and potential misuse of state funds through NGOs. Shaibu emphasized the importance of financial integrity and warned against any questionable financial transactions involving the state government.

Moreover, Shaibu condemned indiscriminate appointments and alleged contract fraud within the government, calling for investigations by relevant agencies. He urged the EFCC and ICPC to look into reported fraudulent activities involving government officials and consultants.

Despite these statements, a government official chose not to respond directly to Shaibu’s claims, suggesting that his importance within the party might influence his involvement in transition committees. However, Shaibu remains steadfast in his efforts to address financial irregularities and ensure accountability within the state government.
