Govt provides financial aid to PWD caregivers

The Lagos State Government recently offered financial assistance to special homes and disability cluster groups within the state. Through the Office for Disability Affairs, nine homes and six cluster groups received N500,000 each. This initiative follows a previous support program where 100 individuals with disabilities were granted N100,000 each.

During a gathering at the agency’s office, the General Manager of LASODA, Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, emphasized that the aid aims to empower caregivers and enhance their ability to meet the needs of children and individuals with disabilities. This initiative underscores the government’s dedication to enhancing the quality of life for persons with disabilities, ensuring caregivers and support groups are well-equipped to offer essential services.

Furthermore, LASODA is planning additional interventions to provide both physical and mental support to children and individuals with disabilities in the state. Initiatives include educational programs, Ability Games, swimming lessons, and medical check-ups tailored to the specific needs of each individual.

Rotimi Adeniyi, Chairman of Physical Clusters, expressed gratitude on behalf of the beneficiaries, acknowledging the government’s ongoing efforts to improve the lives of persons with disabilities. Beneficiaries of the financial aid included Gilead initiatives for PWDs, Victoria Intellectual Disability, and Resource Centre for the Blind, among others.

In a separate event, the Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Persons With Disabilities mentioned a collaboration with the Bank of Industry to provide low-interest credit facilities to individuals living with disabilities. This partnership aims to enhance the economic opportunities for people with disabilities who often face challenges accessing funding.
