Ogun, SFH deploy 1,180 town announcers for mosquito nets distribution

In collaboration with the Global Fund Malaria Project and Society For Family Health, the Ogun state government has deployed 1,180 town announcers across the 236 wards of its 20 Local Governments to raise awareness about the distribution of 3.1 million insecticide-treated nets in November.

Each ward has five town announcers tasked with educating residents about the significance of the 2024 Insecticide Treated Nets Mass Campaign in combating Malaria. The town announcers will inform residents about the registration process to receive the nets and how to exchange their net card for the insecticide-treated nets during distribution.

The ITN Coordinators for various local governments emphasized the importance of the town announcers in ensuring the success of the distribution. They highlighted the need for households to register and participate in the campaign to combat Malaria effectively.

The Ogun State Health Educator revealed the state’s commitment to distributing 3.1 million insecticide-treated nets to residents, with household registration and mobilization taking place from October 31 to November 6, 2024. The distribution of nets will begin on November 19 across all 20 Local Government Areas.

The initiative aims to combat Malaria by promoting the use of insecticide-treated mosquito nets, as Nigeria accounts for a significant portion of global Malaria-related deaths. The Project Director of Global Fund Malaria highlighted the low usage of insecticide-treated nets in Ogun State and emphasized the importance of the distribution to eliminate Malaria and achieve zero pandemics, following the example of other African countries like Egypt, Algeria, and Cape Verde.
