Group selects Nigeria for Japan-Africa trade

The African Diaspora Network Japan has identified Nigeria as a strategic hub for enhancing economic ties between Japan and Africa. Encouraging Japanese companies to explore opportunities within the African market, particularly through the African Continental Free Trade Area, the organization emphasized Nigeria’s significance during the 2024 Osaka-Africa Business Forum. Keynote speaker Nose Yukio highlighted Africa’s growing population and abundant resources, noting the continent’s potential for market expansion. Yukio advised Japanese firms to focus on meeting local demands, suggesting product areas such as automotive goods, power generators, and water filters to avoid common pitfalls. Professor Oussouby Sacko emphasized the importance of understanding Africa’s diversity and challenges, urging collaboration between Japanese and African businesses. A representative from the Japanese government reaffirmed commitment to fostering partnerships with Africa despite existing challenges, praising ADNJ’s efforts in promoting tangible business relationships. ADNJ’s President, David Kpondehou, highlighted the organization’s initiatives aimed at reshaping perceptions and facilitating cross-continental business engagements, including projects like the Japan Africa Youth Agenda 2025 and the Pan African Network in Japan.
