Osun first lady unveils campaign to combat hypertension, diabetes

The spouse of a government official in Osun State has encouraged the state’s residents to participate in free health screenings for diabetes and hypertension supported by the Governors’ Forum and the World Health Organisation. The initiative, known as ‘Project 10 Million,’ aims to screen 10 million Nigerians for these health conditions.

During the launch event in Osogbo, Osun State, the First Lady of Osun underwent screening and emphasized the importance of addressing the increasing prevalence of hypertension and diabetes in the country. She highlighted that these diseases account for a significant percentage of annual deaths in Nigeria.

The ‘Project 10 Million’ campaign targets Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), particularly hypertension and diabetes, as they pose a significant threat to public health. The campaign aims to screen millions of Nigerians to combat the impact of these diseases.

The initiative, endorsed by Health Commissioners from all states and the Federal Capital Territory, aims to increase awareness about the risks and management of Non-Communicable Diseases. It also aims to provide immediate counseling and treatment to those in need.

Residents are urged to participate in the screening campaign to understand their health numbers and take steps towards better management of their well-being. The government of Osun State is committed to providing quality healthcare services to its residents and supports initiatives that promote public health.
