CAPA to host child safety summit in Lagos

A child rights advocacy group, Campaign Against Pedophilia Africa, is set to convene a public awareness forum in Lagos focused on preventing sexual violence against minors and strengthening protection systems for vulnerable children.

The programme, scheduled for May 22, 2026, will be held at Effortswill Academy in Iyana-Ejigbo, Ejigbo, beginning at 11:00 a.m., according to organisers.

The organisation said the gathering forms part of a wider intervention aimed at expanding public education on abuse prevention and improving child safeguarding awareness across schools and community spaces.

Executive Director of CAPA, Dr Wole Olarinde, said the initiative was designed to confront rising incidents of sexual violations against minors through structured education and outreach.

“The programmes are designed to educate innocent children on how to identify, guard against, prevent, and protect themselves from falling victim to sexual predators whose activities have become increasingly alarming,” he said.

Olarinde added that the group is intensifying sensitisation efforts in primary and secondary schools as well as youth-focused community platforms, noting that early awareness remains critical in reducing vulnerability.

He said increasing reports of exploitation and harassment involving children across different parts of the country have made preventive education urgent.

The session will include talks and discussions centred on personal safety, behavioural warning indicators, and steps children and caregivers can take when faced with abuse risks.

Speakers expected at the event include Dr Olarinde; Dele Oyeleru, who will speak on “Upholding Purity Amid the Pedophilia Threat”; and Funmi Ademola, who will deliver a presentation titled “Pedophilia Threats: The Red Flags and Escape Routes.”

Organisers said about 250 pupils drawn from various schools are expected to attend the inaugural edition of the programme.

The group called on parents, educators and child welfare actors to support broader efforts aimed at strengthening protection mechanisms and reducing exposure of minors to sexual exploitation.
