Federal Govt MDAs’ salaries to be delayed

Federal civil servants across various government ministries, departments, and agencies might experience delays in their salaries from October to December 2024. The delay is linked to the exhaustion of the personnel budget due to the recent approval of the new minimum wage. A notice distributed to public servants at the Voice of Nigeria revealed this information.

The circular, issued on October 22, 2024, by the Director of Finance for Director-General, Jack Odeh, explained that the delay was caused by the inclusion of the 40 per cent CONPSS Peculiar Allowance, not initially budgeted for in 2024. To address this, personnel costs from October to December 2024 will be supplemented from the Service Wide Vote, resulting in a slight delay in salary payments.

The issue affected around 12 MDAs, according to the Director of Press at the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation, Bawa Mokwa, without specifying the entities involved. However, the problem has been resolved, and affected civil servants are expected to receive their salaries starting from Thursday.

Some staff members have confirmed the delay, mentioning that salaries for the next three months will be affected. Despite the initial delay, payments have begun for some individuals. Bawa clarified that the salary delay will not persist until the end of the year and assured that affected civil servants will receive their salaries promptly.
