The recent local government elections in Ogun and Zamfara states faced challenges such as low voter turnout and delayed arrival of voting materials. In Ogun State, some polling units experienced delays in accreditation and voting, with voters waiting for officials and materials to arrive. Despite these delays, Governor Dapo Abiodun commended the peaceful conduct of the election and praised the preparedness of the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission.
On the other hand, opposition parties criticized the election, claiming it did not meet the standards of a credible and fair poll. They alleged violence and fraud, accusing the ruling party of misconduct. In Zamfara State, low turnout was also observed, with some voters expressing skepticism about the fairness of the election process. The refusal of the opposition party to participate in Zamfara’s election was cited as a factor in the lack of voter engagement.
While Governor Dauda Lawal expressed satisfaction with the election process in Zamfara, the overall sentiment reflected concerns about transparency and fairness in both states.
