Why I apologised to Ayra Starr – Jaywon

A well-known Nigerian artist, Oluwajuwonlo Iledare, professionally known as Jaywon, recently shared the reasons behind his public apology to fellow artist Onyinkansola Aderigbigbe, popularly known as Ayra Starr. The apology followed allegations of Jaywon mocking Ayra Starr for not receiving a Grammy nomination.

In a conversation with Sunday Scoop, Jaywon clarified his actions, stating, “I felt it necessary to address the situation. I wanted to clear up any misunderstandings and show my support for her talent. The music industry can be competitive, but I believe in promoting each other. Fans can sometimes misinterpret things. Most importantly, it’s vital in this industry to prioritize collaboration and respect over competition. We all have unique paths, and it’s crucial to celebrate each other’s achievements.”

When asked about the appeal of his Evergreen album among fans, Jaywon explained, “I think the album resonates with fans due to its timeless themes of love, perseverance, and personal development. These are emotions and experiences that resonate with everyone at different stages of life. The melodies and lyrics are relatable, making it a go-to for fans.”

Providing guidance to emerging artists on navigating success and fame, Jaywon advised, “It’s essential for them to stay authentic to themselves and their vision. Success and fame can be overwhelming, so it’s crucial to remember your initial passion for music. Embrace both the highs and lows as part of the journey. Surround yourself with a supportive team, focus on honing your craft, and prioritize your mental well-being over the industry’s distractions.”
