The Medical and Dental Consultants’ Association of Nigeria has initiated a seven-day warning strike due to the Federal Government’s failure to meet their demands. The strike is expected to impact 83 health facilities and 64 medical schools nationwide. The association expressed concerns over issues such as the retirement age of medical and dental consultants, salary discrepancies, and the appointment process for the Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University.
The strike, which began on Monday and will run until Sunday, aims to draw attention to these critical issues affecting medical and dental professionals. The association has called for the harmonization of retirement age, salary structures, and the resolution of ongoing disputes related to appointments and emoluments.
The strike is set to affect all universities with medical schools, federal and state tertiary health institutions, teaching hospitals, federal medical centers, and state specialist hospitals. The association’s leadership is determined to address these issues and will reconvene to assess progress and determine the next steps.
