The First Lady of Abia State, Priscilla Otti, recently made a generous donation of N10 million to support cancer patients in the state. The donation was presented during the 2024 World Cancer Day celebration in Umuahia, the state’s capital. Mrs. Otti emphasized the importance of collaboration in the prevention and treatment of cancer.
In her address, Mrs. Otti expressed empathy for the financial burden that cancer treatment places on individuals and families. The donation is intended to assist underprivileged cancer patients by covering part of their treatment costs and providing relief from their suffering.
She highlighted the increasing prevalence of cancer in Nigeria, with thousands of new cases being diagnosed annually. Mrs. Otti stressed the importance of early detection and prevention in combating the rising cancer rates in Abia State and across the country.
The state’s Commissioner for Health, Prof. Enoch Uche, praised the event as a significant step in the ongoing battle against cancer, describing cancer as a formidable foe that affects humanity.
