PDP says Ogun LG poll, breach of democracy

The South-West branch of the Peoples Democratic Party has strongly criticized the conduct of the recent Local Government elections in Ogun State, denouncing what they term as intimidation and irregularities. The party’s stance was communicated through a statement released by its South-West Publicity Secretary, Sanya Atofarati. Atofarati highlighted instances of alleged intimidation towards party members, including the arrest of the PDP’s governorship candidate. The party condemned these actions as a violation of democratic principles.

The statement also criticized the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission, accusing it of being compromised and aiming to commit electoral fraud. The PDP pointed out reported irregularities, such as premature result declarations in areas where no voting took place. The party further accused Governor Dapo Abiodun of involvement in the irregularities and intimidation, warning of the declining support for the All Progressives Congress in the state due to his actions.

Despite the challenges faced, the PDP urged its members to abide by the law and maintain peace. On the other hand, the APC Publicity Secretary in Ogun State defended the council elections, alleging that the PDP engaged in violence during the electoral process. He emphasized the importance of adhering to the law and criticized the opposition for their behavior, asserting that peace prevailed in Ogun State before the elections.
