The police in Anambra State successfully thwarted a kidnapping attempt by a suspected gang linked to a secessionist group. During the operation, one suspect was killed in a gun battle while others managed to escape with injuries. The incident took place along Agulu/Nnobi Road.
The police recovered weapons including a pump-action gun, live cartridges, machetes, SUVs, and desert shoes from the scene. The criminal elements attacked the police convoy unprovoked but were forced to flee into a nearby bush after facing resistance from the Joint Security Team.
In a separate rescue operation, security forces responded to a distress call along Ukwulu Road in Dunukofia Local Government Area, where abducted victims were rescued. The kidnappers shot the victims before abandoning them in a vehicle and fleeing the scene upon realizing they were being pursued.
The rescued victims were taken to the hospital for medical attention, although one unfortunately did not survive. The police are continuing their efforts in the area, and further updates will be provided in due course.
