The Senate officially confirmed the appointment of Lt. General Olufemi Oluyede as the Chief of Army Staff. The confirmation came after a report from the Senate Committee on Army was reviewed during a plenary session. Senator Abdulaziz Yar’Adua presented the report, stating that Oluyede was thoroughly screened and met all qualifications for the position. The confirmation was unanimous among all senators present.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio expressed confidence in Oluyede’s ability to tackle the country’s security challenges, particularly in dealing with terrorists and bandits. He also offered condolences for the former Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, who passed away. The House of Representatives had previously confirmed Oluyede in the same role.
President Tinubu had requested the Senate’s confirmation of Oluyede’s appointment, highlighting his leadership qualities and commitment to national security. Oluyede had been serving as the acting Chief of Army Staff since October 30, following the passing of his predecessor.
