Esteemed guests, relatives, friends, and supporters recently came together to honor Atinuke Sanusi, a remarkable individual who marked both her 50th birthday and a decade as a cancer survivor.
The commemoration commenced with a special thanksgiving service on December 20, 2024, at the NSIA-LUTH Cancer Centre, which is located within the premises of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital in Idi-Araba.
In a gesture of appreciation, the founder of the Atinuke Cancer Foundation generously donated amounts of N50,000 to 20 cancer survivors, N25,000 to four individuals, and N10,000 to over 10 recipients.
Reflecting on her personal cancer journey, Sanusi shared, “A decade ago, when I received the diagnosis in Nigeria, I never imagined I would be here today. Back then, cancer was often viewed with fear and stigma. But if I could overcome it, so can you.
“Despite the uncertainties, I held onto hope for recovery and felt compelled to share my story. Following my treatment, I started sharing my experiences through a blog, which unexpectedly evolved into the establishment of a foundation. After appearing on a TV program, the message resonated widely, leading to the foundation’s creation.”
The thanksgiving service set the stage for a lavish birthday celebration at the Muson Centre in Onikan, Lagos, the following day.
The event, hosted by the charismatic Denrele, was a sophisticated affair highlighted by Atinuke’s elegant presence in white attire.
Among the festivities was a captivating dance performance by the talented artists from the Lilian Yeri Dance World.
A particularly memorable moment was Atinuke’s grand entrance into the venue, greeted with cheers, embraces, and a room filled with joyful faces.
Radiant in her beautiful white ensemble, the celebrant exuded grace as she danced among her loved ones.
The celebration also featured the unveiling of Sanusi’s book, titled “Atinuke: Cancer Messed with the Wrong Chic,” a personal account spanning 14 chapters.
The autobiography was reviewed by Victor Oteri, the Head of Programmes at Lagos Traffic Radio, who is visually impaired.
Notable attendees at the event included Ogun State Commissioner for Environment, Ola Oresanya; Olumide Osunsina, Managing Director and CEO of Megamound Investment Limited; actor Seun Akindele; Teniola Akeredolu; and Foluke Abdulrazaq, among others.
