The government of Taraba State has revealed its intention to acquire 10,000 metric tons of various grains to distribute among its residents in an effort to combat hunger and guarantee food security.
In his New Year speech, the state governor, Agbu Kefas, disclosed that 3,500 metric tons of assorted grains have already been purchased, with the remaining 6,500 metric tons scheduled for procurement by the end of the first quarter of the year.
To address the hunger threat, Governor Kefas mentioned the procurement of 3,500 metric tons of assorted grains already in store for the citizens, with a target of reaching 10,000 metric tons.
The governor stressed the importance of peace for development and highlighted the government’s efforts to enhance security across all 168 wards of the state.
In addition, the governor mentioned collaborations with security agencies, the expansion of the Taraba Marshall, and partnerships with traditional institutions and neighboring states to tackle security issues.
Focusing on education, the governor highlighted investments in the future of children in Taraba State, including the launch of free and compulsory education for primary and secondary levels.
Plans are in place to enhance school infrastructure, hire qualified teachers, and ensure quality education for all, with modern schools set to be constructed in all LGAs using innovative building techniques.
The governor also pledged support for skill acquisition programs and entrepreneurship for youths, pointing out the success of the state’s agricultural initiatives through facility upgrades, provision of modern farming tools, and training in advanced agricultural practices.
Regarding higher education, reforms are being implemented to improve service delivery and infrastructure, including the establishment of the Ministry of Tertiary Education to enhance quality service and upgrade physical structures.
Emphasizing transparency and citizen engagement, the governor assured accountability in every expenditure, urging unity among the people of Taraba State for collective progress, highlighting the strength found in diversity.
