IPOB opposes Okiro, backs Rivers to produce Ohanaeze leader

The Indigenous People of Biafra recently expressed their support for Rivers State to produce the next President-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo. They rejected the idea of a former Inspector-General of Police from Imo State taking up the position. The position became vacant in 2025, and discussions are ongoing regarding the successor. IPOB emphasized the need for equity, asserting that the next leader should come from Rivers State. They cautioned against attempts to manipulate the process and undermine Igbo unity. IPOB made it clear that they will not tolerate any interference in Ohanaeze Ndigbo’s leadership selection. They called on Igbo governors and politicians to respect the organization’s autonomy and ensure a fair election process.
