The National Bureau of Statistics is set to introduce three new indexes in its monthly Consumer Price Index. This announcement was made during a workshop on GDP and CPI rebasing organized by the Nigerian Economic Summit Group and the NBS in Lagos. The decision to rebase the GDP and CPI was initially revealed by the NBS in October to accurately reflect current economic conditions and changes. The new indexes, including a services index, energy index, and farm produce index, will be part of the rebased CPI set to be released in January. The head of Price Statistics at the NBS highlighted the importance of these new indices in tracking price fluctuations in various sectors of the economy. The new base year for the CPI will be 2024.
