The collaboration between the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security and the National Identity Management Commission has introduced a National Identity Number-enabled farmer registry and Government-to-People card initiative. This initiative aims to streamline identity verification for efficient delivery of government agricultural services.
The farmer registry will connect each farmer’s NIN to their farm-related information, like crop or livestock details and farm size. The Government-to-People (G2P) card system will issue NIN-enabled cards to Nigerians and legal residents, offering biometric verification, multiple transaction wallets, and offline functionality for accessibility in remote areas. These personalized cards will support various government programs such as subsidies, loans, and welfare payments.
This initiative will enable the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security to manage its programs effectively while ensuring real-time monitoring and tracking through digital platforms. By enhancing transparency, scalability, and efficiency in the agricultural sector, the G2P card system will improve service delivery to farmers and promote inclusivity and food security nationwide.
Through secure biometric identity verification provided by the National Identity Management Commission, the initiative will prevent fraud and ensure that agricultural benefits are correctly linked to individual farmers. The G2P ecosystem will empower the Ministry to independently implement its programs and monitor performance using digital dashboards, showcasing the efficient delivery of agricultural services to beneficiaries.
