LASTMA impounds 173 vehicles for illegal parking

Authorities at the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority have reported the impoundment of 125 commercial buses and 48 private vehicles due to various violations, such as unauthorized parking and obstruction of roads.

The enforcement operation was led by the General Manager of LASTMA, Olalekan Bakare-Oki, who emphasized the aim to restore traffic order and ensure smooth vehicle movement.

This crackdown targeted areas known for heavy traffic congestion, including Idumota, Ijaye Street, Martins, Ereko, Nnamdi Azikiwe by Tom Jones, Ebute-Ero, Oyingbo, Ijora, Adeniji Adele, and Iddo.

LASTMA’s commitment to reducing traffic congestion and improving road safety, especially among commercial and private drivers who disregard traffic laws, was highlighted during this operation.

Numerous offenders were caught endangering others by driving recklessly, such as going against traffic flow and making hazardous turns from Iddo to Idumota to pick up passengers.

Oki condemned such risky behaviors, noting the connection to road accidents and unnecessary loss of lives.

The initiative also focused on shutting down illegal garages that worsen traffic jams, causing inconvenience to commuters and residents.

The state government’s determination to enforce traffic regulations and improve road order was reiterated.
