Police arrest four suspects, rescue kidnapped Ondo woman

The Ondo State Police Command on Tuesday said it had arrested four suspects in connection with the abduction of a 26-year-old woman, Miss Ogechi John, in Owo, Owo Local Government Area of the state.

The command disclosed this in a statement issued by its Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh.

According to the statement, the suspects are Friday Shola, 27; Friday Monday, 21; Osho Joseph, 24; and Lawal Mariam.

Jimoh said the victim was allegedly abducted by unidentified men at Gozako Filling Station along the Emure-Akure Expressway on Monday, June 8, 2026.

“The command has recorded a significant breakthrough in its ongoing efforts to combat violent crime with the successful rescue of a 26-year-old woman who was allegedly abducted in Owo and the arrest of four suspects linked to the incident,” the statement read.

“The suspects reportedly arrived in an ash-coloured, unregistered Toyota Camry, forcibly took the victim and fled to an unknown destination.

“Upon receiving the distress report, the command immediately activated a coordinated response involving Amotekun personnel, local hunters and vigilantes. Strategic entry and exit points within Owo and neighbouring communities were secured, while patrol and tactical teams were deployed to comb nearby bushes and likely escape routes in a bid to locate the victim and apprehend the suspects.”

Jimoh said the prompt and coordinated operation yielded results as the suspected getaway vehicle was later discovered abandoned in a bush at Ojana, Owo.

He added that police operatives, acting on intelligence gathered during the operation, arrested three suspects who were found in possession of a woman’s motorcycle believed to be connected to the crime.

“During preliminary interrogation, one of the suspects disclosed that the abandoned Toyota Camry had earlier been handed over to a herbalist identified as Lawal Lucky of Idimepe Street, Owo, who is currently at large,” the statement added.

The police spokesperson said the victim was successfully rescued and taken to a hospital, where she is receiving treatment.

He added that investigations were ongoing to apprehend other suspects linked to the abduction.
