There was a demonstration in Ogun State where members of the Nigeria Automobile Technicians Association at Ajebo Mechanic Village protested the tragic deaths of three colleagues caused by a truck driver. The victims were fatally struck by the truck while riding a motorcycle home from work. Outraged by the incident, the technicians blocked the Ajebo/OGTV expressway, demanding measures to prevent such avoidable losses.
The protesters highlighted the alarming trend of fatalities on the road due to reckless truck driving. They accused truck drivers of disregarding traffic regulations, parking haphazardly, and posing risks to other road users. The chairman of NATA’s Ajebo Mechanic Village unit condemned the recurring accidents and called for strict enforcement against negligent drivers.
The demonstrators advocated for nighttime restrictions on truck movements, similar to past measures by former Governor Ibikunle Amosun, to reduce accidents. They also urged for collaboration between government officials, technicians, and truck owners to address the ongoing safety concerns. Additionally, they called on Governor Dapo Abiodun to address the issue and repair road sections that may contribute to accidents.
The protestors maintained their stance on demanding tangible actions to prevent further tragedies and emphasized the importance of prioritizing road safety to protect lives.
