12-year-old Nigerian wins global ear care contest

A young Nigerian named Joshua Obadin, aged 12, has recently been announced as one of the winners of the IDEASforEARS Children’s Invention Contest. His invention, a sleepwear cover designed for a friend who uses a cochlear implant, earned him recognition and a fully-paid trip to Austria. Joshua’s motivation stemmed from wanting to keep his friend safe while sleeping without his hearing device.

His innovative solution was praised for its creativity, practical impact, and potential to help individuals with hearing challenges. The contest, which targeted children between six and 12 years old, attracted participants from various countries, showcasing a range of inventions geared towards improving the lives of people with hearing loss.

The judges commended the problem-solving skills and forward-thinking mindset of the young contestants, emphasizing the importance of imagination and courage in finding solutions. Joshua’s win will see him traveling to Austria with a parent to meet and collaborate with other young inventors from around the globe.

The IDEASforEARS contest has been running since 2017, receiving numerous submissions from different countries, highlighting the creativity and dedication of young minds in addressing hearing-related issues.
