The Speaker of the House of Representatives recently emphasized the need for urgent action to combat insecurity and poverty in the North-West region. During the inauguration of the House Committee on the North-West Development Commission, the Speaker highlighted the long-standing issues of neglect, escalating insecurity, and economic downturn in the area. Stressing the importance of tangible change, he called for decisive measures to address these pressing challenges.

Banditry and rural violence were identified as significant factors affecting agriculture, displacement, and education in the region, posing serious threats to its survival. Acknowledging governmental efforts like the National Poverty Reduction and Growth Strategy and the National Livestock Transformation Plan, the Speaker urged the committee to effectively execute the NWDC’s mandate without political interference or mismanagement.

The Chairman of the House Committee echoed these sentiments, expressing a strong commitment to addressing the region’s issues and initiating a new era of transformation in the North-West. Emphasizing the importance of proactive measures, he outlined the committee’s key objectives, which include overseeing NWDC activities, collaborating with stakeholders, and ensuring accountability and efficiency in project implementation.

Both the Speaker and the Committee Chairman emphasized the significance of integrity in leadership and pledged to uphold transparency and effectiveness in their oversight responsibilities. The committee plans to closely monitor NWDC projects to ensure that allocated resources directly benefit the people of the region, aligning with the broader goals of regional development.
