How police retired officer accused of raping teenager inside Lagos station

A senior police officer at the Ogudu Police Station in Lagos State, who allegedly raped a 17-year-old girl in his office, was reportedly retired from service secretly before facing court proceedings. This action has raised concerns among rights activists, the victim, and her family, who expected the officer to be dismissed and prosecuted after the investigation.

The survivor’s mother had accused the police of trying to cover up the case and influence her to drop the charges due to the suspect’s imminent retirement. Sources claim that the Nigeria Police Force deliberately delayed the investigation and the suspect’s arraignment until after his retirement to provide him a smooth exit.

The victim was allegedly lured to the officer’s office under false pretenses before being assaulted. Despite calls for his prosecution, the officer was allowed to retire without facing immediate consequences.

The case was eventually transferred to the Force headquarters in Abuja, where directives on the investigation were given. The survivor’s family expressed disappointment in the handling of the case and highlighted the severity of the crime.

The survivor shared her ongoing struggles and fear of encountering police officers, expressing a lack of trust in law enforcement. Her family remains hopeful for justice to be served despite the traumatic experience.
