In a recent discussion, the Director-General of the National Consultative Front, Wale Okunniyi, shared insights about plans to establish a robust coalition to rival the All Progressives Congress in the upcoming 2027 general election. The focus is on creating a powerful movement within an existing party, potentially the Labour Party, PDP, or NNPP, to ensure a strong opposition that safeguards democracy and addresses the needs of Nigerians.
The strategy involves learning from past mistakes, consolidating various stakeholders, including APC, PDP, and LP members, to form a united front. This effort aims to bring about positive change by engaging in transparent consultations and empowering the people in governance decisions. The goal is to navigate challenges like alleged bribery tactics and ensure a genuine, democratic process that prioritizes the interests of the populace.
The movement, spearheaded by the National Consultative Front and chaired by Prof Pat Utomi, seeks to involve all regions, with a particular emphasis on engaging the North in the current political discourse. By fostering a sense of ownership among Nigerians and promoting transparency, the coalition aims to offer a fresh perspective and hope for a better future.
