The Kwara State Government plans to construct a groundbreaking six-storey building in Ilorin, the state capital, to house the Judiciary, marking a first of its kind in Africa. The project, spearheaded by Governor AbdulR,ahman AbdulRazaq, was recently initiated with the unveiling of the Court House complex prototype located at Ahmadu Bello Way in Ilorin.
The building will feature spacious courtrooms, offices, a conference hall, and a library among other modern amenities to enhance the efficiency of judicial operations in the state. The project, conceptualized by Governor AbdulRazaq, aligns with the vision to improve judicial services and upgrade various sectors in the state for the benefit of all residents.
Baron Architecture and Craneburg International are the consulting and contracting firms responsible for the construction project, ensuring adherence to the agreed terms and delivering a high-quality outcome. The unveiling event witnessed the presence of key officials from the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, representatives from the Kwara State Attorney General Commissioner for Justice, and personnel from Baron Architecture.
The new complex aims to address the shortage of courtrooms, particularly for lower bench cadre, within the state. The initiative follows appeals from the Chief Judge, Justice Abiodun Adebara, for increased infrastructure support for the state Judiciary, including providing more courtrooms, vehicles for magistrates, official quarters for judges, and land subsidies for housing construction. The Chief Judge also called for community support in supplementing the government’s efforts due to economic constraints and competing priorities.
