As part of the World Environment Day celebration, the wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr Nonye Soludo, has encouraged every household, school, market and community to embrace simple habits and imbibe healthy environmental consciousness, adding that healthy living begins with a healthy environment.
Soludo noted that a cleaner environment is not just about aesthetics; it is about protecting lives, preventing diseases and creating a healthier future for everyone, most importantly, for children.
The Anambra First Lady, who is also the founder of the non-governmental organisation, Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo, stated this in a press statement she released on Friday to commemorate World Environment Day, observed globally on June 5.
She explained that the official theme for this year, “Now for Climate”, highlights the urgent need for action against climate change, noting that the campaign zeroes in on the alarming signals the Earth is sending, such as extreme heat, floods and droughts, as well as the critical and immediate steps humanity must take to address the climate crisis.
She listed proper waste disposal, cleaner surroundings, tree planting and responsible environmental consciousness as some of the deliberate efforts communities should embrace to make a lasting difference.
She said, “World Environment Day reminds us that healthy living equally begins with a healthy environment. The air we breathe, the water we drink, the food we eat, and the communities we live in are all connected to the decisions we make every day.
“A cleaner environment is not just about aesthetics; it is about protecting lives, preventing diseases, and creating a healthier future for us and, most importantly, for our children.
“As we commemorate this year’s World Environment Day, I encourage every household, school, market, and community to embrace simple habits that make a lasting difference: proper waste disposal, cleaner surroundings, tree planting, and responsible environmental consciousness.
“Through Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo Initiative, we remain committed to promoting a culture where personal health and environmental hygiene go hand in hand.
“Together, let’s nurture a greener, cleaner, smarter, and healthier Anambra.”
