A former member of the Labour Party, Valentine Ozigbo, recently shared his reasons for leaving the party and its presidential flagbearer, Peter Obi, ahead of the 2023 election. Ozigbo, who has now aligned with the All Progressives Congress for his gubernatorial aspirations in Anambra State, cited the ongoing leadership crisis within the opposition party as a significant factor in his decision.
During a recent interaction, Ozigbo emphasized his belief that aligning with forward-thinking and progressive leaders within the ruling party was crucial, given the current political landscape. Despite being a former ally of Peter Obi, Ozigbo clarified that his move was not driven by personal issues but rather by his commitment to governance and the welfare of the people of Anambra.
He highlighted his respect for Peter Obi while affirming that his decision to switch parties was based on his loyalty to his values and the urgent need for effective governance. Ozigbo also expressed his concerns about the state of the Labour Party, labeling it as a toxic environment unsuitable for serious and ambitious individuals.
Reflecting on his departure from the Labour Party, Ozigbo pointed out several issues within the party, including disputes involving the national chairman and the party’s performance in elections. He stressed the importance of choosing a party that prioritizes the welfare of the people, citing the APC’s leadership qualities and progressiveness as key factors in his decision to join them for the Anambra gubernatorial race.
