Police arrest three over Ekiti council boss abduction

The Police Command in Ekiti State has arrested three suspects over the alleged conspiracy, abduction of, and assault on the chairman of Ikere-West Local Council Development Area, Rufus Olorunfemi, and one Funso Ajayi.

The Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, Michael Falade, has consequently ordered a thorough investigation into the matter.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Sunday Abutu, in a statement on Friday, stated that “preliminary investigation revealed that on 3rd June, 2026 at about 9pm, three Hilux vehicles loaded with armed men in camouflage uniform allegedly accosted the LCDA chairman and one Funso Ajayi along Anoye Street, Ikere Ekiti and whisked them away”.

According to Abutu, the council boss and the other person were taken to the compound of a popular politician where they were seriously assaulted before they were set free.

He stated, “Three suspects have been apprehended in connection with the incident and are currently being investigated. While effort is ongoing to arrest others who are at present at large, the suspects will be charged to court immediately after the investigation is concluded”.

The PPRO, who said that no stone would be left unturned in the incident, warned citizens, especially political party loyalists, against taking the law into their hands and inciting violence in society.

Abutu stated, “The Command will continue to ensure safety and justice for all, fairness and rule of law, professionalism and respect for the rights of all citizens”.
