Former Secretary of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Kaduna State Chapter, Kabiru Jarimi, has challenged the claims made by a former governor regarding the handling of local government funds during his tenure. The former governor alleged that the current governor diverted funds for personal gain. Jarimi disputes these claims, stating that during the previous administration, local government funds were consistently deducted without proper authorization. He highlighted that these deductions mainly affected LGAs in Southern Kaduna, leading to financial constraints and difficulties in meeting basic operational costs. Jarimi also criticized the former governor for introducing various policies that resulted in additional fund deductions and the establishment of different authorities to divert LG allocations. He questioned the transparency of deductions made for specific purposes like security and riot damage, urging accountability for the usage of these funds. Jarimi praised the current governor for reversing some of the previous administration’s policies and taking steps towards granting more financial autonomy to local governments.
