FG unveils special forces to combat terrorism, cyber threats

The Federal Government has introduced a Special Operations Forces training program that has gathered 800 soldiers from the Nigerian Army, Navy, and Air Force. The initiative aims to boost the country’s operational capabilities in fighting terrorism, insurgency, transnational crimes, and other asymmetric threats.

The Minister of Defence, Mohammed Abubakar, revealed the special operations forces training at Camp Kabala in the Jaji Military Cantonment in Kaduna. He emphasized that the training is intended to create a highly skilled, agile, and mission-ready force capable of executing specialized operations in various complex environments.

Abubakar highlighted the need for an elite force well-equipped and well-trained in advanced tactics, unconventional warfare, intelligence-driven operations, and rapid response missions due to the evolving security challenges. The Special Operations Force Training is strategically designed to enhance operational effectiveness in combating various threats and ensuring national sovereignty and peace.

The program aims to equip personnel with special combat tactics, counterterrorism operations, intelligence gathering, and hostage rescue missions. It also prepares them for high-risk missions in different environments, promoting collaboration among the Nigerian Army, Navy, Air Force, and other security agencies.

The training is part of a long-term strategy to develop a world-class special operations capability within the Armed Forces of Nigeria. It will be sustained and expanded to include more personnel from all branches of the Armed Forces in the future.

The importance of the training was emphasized to achieve convergence in synchronizing and integrating capabilities effectively. The Special Operations Force is deemed crucial in responding swiftly and decisively to threats, both domestically and internationally.

The State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, as the Special Guest of Honour at the event, commended the government’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s security architecture. He highlighted the significance of equipping the Armed Forces with the necessary training and tactics to combat evolving threats effectively.

The Special Operations Force Training is a significant step towards preparing a new generation of elite troops capable of defending Nigeria’s sovereignty with precision, intelligence, and courage. It aims to foster strategic thinking, decisive action, and exemplary leadership within the military.
