56-year-old woman remanded for N25m visa scam in Osun

In Osogbo, Osun State, a 56-year-old individual has been remanded in the Ilesa correctional facility for allegedly deceiving someone into giving them N25 million under the false promise of helping them obtain a visa to the United Kingdom. The accused faced three charges of fraud and pervasion of justice before Magistrate Olusegun Ayilara. The accused is said to have obtained the money between April 2023 and January 2024 from the victim for a Contract of Sponsor (COS) visa to the UK. The matter was reported to the State Criminal Investigation Department of Osun State Police Command, leading to the arrest of the accused, who was later granted bail but failed to appear, resulting in a second arrest. The police prosecutor stated that the offences fall under Section 419 of the Criminal Code Cap 34 Vol.II Laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2002. The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges. The prosecutor objected to the bail application due to the accused’s previous breach of administrative bail. The case was adjourned till March 26, 2025, for a ruling on bail, and the defendant was remanded in custody.
