The community members of Ifa Ikot Akpan Etoi village in Akwa Ibom State have filed a petition to the Commissioner of Police, expressing concern over the wrongful arrest and detention of residents due to false claims made by certain individuals within the community. They are urging the Commissioner to investigate the matter promptly to prevent any potential disturbances to the peace and order of the community.
The petition, dated February 19, 2025, was submitted through their legal representative, highlighting incidents involving specific individuals misleading the police to target and detain innocent residents. The community members are seeking intervention to address the misuse of police authority and prevent further unjust actions against them.
Allegations made by the petitioners suggest that certain individuals, including Roland Etim Ben, have been manipulating law enforcement to harass and detain others within the community. They claim that these actions have violated court orders and are detrimental to the community’s well-being.
In response to the accusations, Roland Ben has refuted the claims, labeling his accusers as fraudulent and asserting that he has been a victim of harassment and violence within the community. He shared a personal account of being kidnapped and mistreated, emphasizing that he has also faced hardships at the hands of those accusing him.
The Commissioner of Police acknowledged the existence of legal procedures such as court injunctions but emphasized that the police would take necessary steps to address any misuse of legal processes to evade justice.
The situation underscores the need for a thorough investigation to uncover the truth and ensure justice prevails in Ifa Ikot Akpan village.
