The Commissioner of Police in Kano State, Ibrahim Bakori, has urged officers and men of the Criminal Investigation Department to shun corruption, uphold professionalism and adhere strictly to the rule of law in the discharge of their duties.
Bakori gave the charge during a capacity-building lecture organised for CID personnel at the Kano State Police Command headquarters.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna, the training was aimed at reinforcing discipline, professionalism and public confidence in police investigations and operations.
The police commissioner warned officers against illegal arrests, unlawful detention and other actions capable of violating citizens’ rights.
“Remain compliant with the rule of law and established investigative procedures in all cases. Exhibit conduct that enhances public trust and confidence in the Nigeria Police Force,” Bakori said.
He also cautioned personnel against all forms of corruption and unprofessional conduct, particularly the misuse of social media, noting that such behaviour could undermine public confidence in the police.
Bakori reaffirmed the command’s commitment to improving officers’ welfare, insurance coverage and working conditions, urging personnel to reciprocate through dedication, diligence and professionalism.
The commissioner commended the CID for its role in investigating and prosecuting criminal cases and called for stronger collaboration with other departments to enhance crime-fighting efforts across the state.
The session featured an interactive question-and-answer segment, providing officers with the opportunity to raise concerns and receive guidance from the command leadership.
In his remarks, the Head of the Criminal Investigation Department, DCP Shehu Idris, commended the commissioner for prioritising personnel development and providing strategic direction for the command.
The capacity-building lecture forms part of ongoing efforts by the Kano State Police Command to strengthen professionalism, accountability and people-centred policing in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police.
The initiative is also aimed at improving investigative standards and enhancing public trust in law enforcement.
