Four members of the National Youth Service Corps and a soldier have been confirmed dead in a road accident along the Yola–Mubi road in Adamawa State.
The accident occurred on Wednesday at about 1:50 pm along the Narehi area of Girei/Song Local Government Area.
The Adamawa State Police Command spokesman, SP Suleiman Nguroje, confirmed the incident in a statement on Thursday.
According to the statement, the crash involved a military gun truck travelling from Gombi towards Yola and a commercial Hummer bus conveying five passengers from Yola to Mubi.
“The unfortunate incident involved a military Gun truck travelling from Gombi towards Yola and a commercial Hummer bus conveying five (5) passengers from Yola to Mubi.
“Preliminary findings reveals that both vehicles were involved in a head-on collision, resulting in the commercial bus flipped over and burst into flames,” he said.
All five occupants of the bus were reportedly burnt to death.
“Preliminary identification reveals that four of the deceased were serving members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) posted to Adamawa State.”
“They are Suleiman Juliet female, Usman Shuaibu male, both indigines of Kaduna State while the remaining are yet to be identified,” he said.
The command also confirmed that a soldier attached to the military vehicle died in the crash.
Police operatives and emergency responders evacuated the remains of the victims to the Specialist Hospital, Yola.
The Commissioner of Police in the state, Kabir Hassan, expressed condolences to the families of the deceased, the Nigerian Armed Forces and the NYSC.
