Leverkusen coach Alonso says Bayern ‘favourites’ in Bundesliga

Alonso expressed his confidence in Bayern as the favorites in an upcoming Bundesliga season opener against Borussia Moenchengladbach. He emphasized the team’s goal of securing a top-four position with their strong squad.

Bayern faced a trophyless season for the first time since 2011-12 as Leverkusen claimed their first Bundesliga title, ending Bayern’s 11-year reign in Germany.

Amidst a busy summer, Bayern welcomed new additions like Michael Olise, Joao Palhinha, and Hiroki Ito. Leverkusen, on the other hand, maintained an unbeaten record in Germany since May 2023.

Reflecting on their previous achievements, Leverkusen’s coach acknowledged the need to start afresh for the new season, stressing the importance of consistent performances to earn points.

Alonso confirmed the team’s readiness for the upcoming match against Gladbach, except for midfielder Exequiel Palacios, who is sidelined with a knee injury.
