Opposition rates ministers low

Criticism has been directed towards President Bola Tinubu’s ministers by the Peoples Democratic Party, Labour Party, and the New Nigeria Peoples Party, labeling their one-year performance as a “monumental failure.”

The 45 ministers were inaugurated by President Bola Tinubu on August 21, 2023, at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja. Some ministers highlighted their achievements on their first anniversary in office.

However, opposition party members have accused Tinubu and his cabinet of damaging Nigeria’s economy within a year through policies that harm the masses.

According to the National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Debo Ologunagba, the government and its ministers have exacerbated the challenges faced by Nigerians, with issues such as scarcity of petroleum products, insecurity, decreased life expectancy, inadequate healthcare, unsafe roads, and decaying infrastructure.

Ologunagba criticized Tinubu for maintaining a bloated cabinet, which he believes fosters corruption.

Labour Party’s presidential candidate’s campaign spokesman, Yunusa Tanko, expressed skepticism that a cabinet reshuffle could salvage Tinubu’s administration, citing the ministers’ low performance levels and lack of tangible impact on governance.

Similarly, the NNPP spokesperson, Ladipo Johnson, noted that the ministers’ performance fell short of Nigerians’ expectations and suggested that Tinubu should consider reshuffling his cabinet.
