A media aide to a former Sokoto State Governor was arraigned by the police for allegedly defaming the current Sokoto State Governor. The suspect faced charges of spreading false information and defamation.
During the court proceedings, journalists were not allowed to cover the case as ordered by the Chief Magistrate. The accused was detained by the police before the court arraignment.
The charges against the suspect included sharing videos of the governor’s wife distributing money during a birthday celebration, despite the hardships faced by citizens. Additionally, the accused allegedly shared a document indicating the governor’s poor academic performance.
The defence counsel denied the charges on behalf of the accused and requested bail, with a ruling on the bail application scheduled for a later date.
The arrest of the media aide was condemned by the state chapter of a political party, calling for his immediate release and questioning the source of the leaked videos.
