A collaborative effort between the National Orientation Agency, the National Population Commission, and the United Nations Children’s Fund has been announced to launch a campaign for birth registration across the state.
The campaign is set to commence in August and conclude in November 2024, aiming to register all children aged zero to five years, issuing them National Identification Numbers and birth certificates at no cost.
Adaline Waye-Patari, the NOA Gombe State Director, emphasized the importance of parental and community involvement in this initiative.
She stated, “It is crucial for all parents, guardians, and community leaders to participate in this effort. Let’s collaborate to provide every Nigerian child with a strong foundation. Registering their births not only secures their future but also contributes to the nation’s progress.”
Jude Maigari, the Gombe NPC Director, highlighted the significance of accurate birth registration for national planning and development.
He mentioned, “Precise birth registration data is essential for government planning in sectors like education and healthcare. Registering a child’s birth ensures their recognition by the state, safeguarding them from various risks like abuse and statelessness.”
