Adeleke boasts of minimum wage payment in Osun

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has said his administration is among the few in the country implementing the approved national minimum wage.

The governor stated this on Wednesday in Osogbo at the opening session of the National Retreat of the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council.

Adeleke also said his administration prioritised workers’ welfare through the provision of a conducive working environment to enhance productivity.

In addition to the payment of the national minimum wage, the governor said the government has continued to implement measures aimed at easing the burden on retirees, adding that efforts were ongoing to clear outstanding liabilities.

Highlighting incentives to motivate the state workforce, Adeleke said his administration had ensured regular and prompt payment of salaries.

“We have maintained a cordial relationship with organised labour and kept open channels of communication for conflict resolution. Osun State is one of the few states implementing the approved national minimum wage. This also covers consequential adjustments for eligible workers in the state.

“We have also consistently approved and implemented promotions and career progression opportunities for deserving public servants. I personally ensured that the dignity of labour is upheld.

“For our pensioners, we have taken deliberate steps to improve their welfare. We pay monthly pensions regularly. Our government has made substantial payments towards inherited pension arrears and outstanding obligations,” he said.

Beyond workers’ welfare, the governor said his administration had invested in infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture and local economic development.

“These investments not only improve the quality of life of our people but also create a more enabling environment for economic growth and job creation,” he said.

He commended the leadership of the Joint National Public Service Negotiating Council for choosing Osun as host of this year’s retreat, describing it as a vote of confidence in his administration.
