Nine die in Vietnam landslide

A powerful typhoon named Yagi caused extensive damage in Vietnam, resulting in nine deaths by Sunday. The storm had previously struck southern China and the Philippines before reaching Vietnam. Tragically, a family of four lost their lives in a landslide in northern Vietnam’s Hoa Binh province. The landslide occurred after heavy rainfall caused a hillside to collapse onto their home, burying the mother, daughter, and two grandchildren. The father managed to escape. Yagi made landfall in northern Vietnam with winds exceeding 149 kilometers per hour, causing destruction to infrastructure and claiming more lives. The storm also led to flooding in Hai Phong and severe damage to boats and buildings in Ha Long Bay. Fishermen were shocked by the destruction, with many boats sunk or damaged. The storm’s impact highlighted the increasing intensity of typhoons in the region, which scientists attribute to climate change.
