Ogun, NEPC to support cashew industry

The government of Ogun State has restated its dedication to collaborating with the Nigerian Export Promotion Council and other relevant parties to nurture a conducive environment for the growth of the cashew industry. This affirmation was made by the State Head of Service, Mr. Kehinde Onasanya, during a program where cashew seedlings were distributed to farmers in partnership with the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment.

The initiative, which took place at the Obas’ Complex in Oke Mosan, Abeokuta, aimed to enhance the state’s position in cashew production and reinforce the implementation of the One State, One Product plan under the State Committee on Export Promotion. Onasanya emphasized the significance of cashew in Ogun State’s economy, highlighting its potential to boost revenue, create employment opportunities, and drive sustainable development in rural areas.

He emphasized the importance of the intervention program in addressing critical issues such as capacity building, infrastructure development, and market access for cashew farmers to cultivate a conducive business environment. Onasanya urged stakeholders to collaborate effectively to establish a thriving and sustainable cashew industry that benefits both farmers and exporters while contributing to the overall economic growth of the state and the country.

The host commissioner, Mr. Adebola Sofela, emphasized the crucial role of cashew production in the state’s agriculture and its contribution to economic prosperity, employment generation, and family sustenance. The NEPC Executive Director highlighted the council’s commitment to elevating cashew production through initiatives like One State, One Product.

Various stakeholders, including traditional leaders, commended the state government for its collaboration with NEPC to boost cashew production and called for continued support for farmers across all local government areas. The State Coordinator of NEPC emphasized the importance of the event in promoting specialized cashew breeds suitable for export, acknowledging cashew as a valuable product in the state.
