A tragic incident took place near Tazame village in Zamfara State, where eight security personnel lost their lives in an attack by bandits. The victims, comprising five policemen and three soldiers, were providing security for a road construction company when the armed bandits ambushed them. The security personnel were stationed to protect workers repairing the Gusau-Tsafe-Zaria road. The bandits, hiding near the road, opened fire as soon as the security team arrived, resulting in casualties on both sides.
The confrontation caused chaos, with motorists abandoning their vehicles and fleeing to safety. The ongoing construction work has been severely affected by the repeated attacks from bandits, hindering progress on the road repairs. The Zamfara State Police Command confirmed the tragic incident, although the exact number of casualties was still being determined at the time of the report.
The Police Public Relations Officer stated that efforts were underway to gather more information on the attack and the casualties involved. Search and rescue operations were being conducted by officers in the bush, and further details were awaited once communication could be established with the team in the field.
